Belmonte is situated on a plain between Jequitinhonha river and Atlantic Ocean. This city developed itself in the good times of cocoa cultivation, in the end of 19th century. The topography of the place is hilly, with numerous hills intersected by valleys. Some places have an exotic beauty, as Praia do Sul, Praia do Mar, Praia do Mar Moreno and Praia do Garuzau. This peculiarity exists because of the meeting between Jequitinhonha river and Atlantic Ocean. The taste and the color of the sea are quite different.
How to get there
It's 688 km from Salvador
- Overland
By car - leaving from Porto Seguro and then take the BR-367 (road) to the north until Santa Cruz Cabrália. From there, cross João de Tiba river by balsa to the port of Santo André. Then, go through BA-001 (road) until Belmonte. Another option is leaving from Salvador and take the BR-101 (road) to the south until the junction with BA-275, that takes to Belmonte as well.
By bus - at the Salvador Bus Terminal there are buses to Belmonte and Porto Seguro
