Itaparica island - Todos os Santos bay

The most famous island of Todos os Santos bay (in portuguese: Baía de Todos os Santos), main Bahia's bay, Itaparica is divided in two cities: Vera Cruz and Itaparica. It's located in front of Salvador and owns more than 40 km of beach coast with abundant tropical vegetation, where is common to find amazing coconut palms and a lot of history.

Itaparica, Mar Grande, Barra Grande, Coroa, Barra do Pote, Conceição e Penha are some of the most visited places in the island.

The island is 284km from Salvador and it's possible to get there by three ways.

- Aerial: Itaparica has an airport (in portuguese: Aeroclube da Bahia) that can receives narrow-body aircrafts.

- Sea: the Ferry Boat system joins São Joaquim Terminal, in Salvador, to Bom Despacho's, in the Island. Arriving in Vera Cruz, it's necessary to get a vehicle to go to any beach. The crossing can also happen by fast ships that leave from Bahia Nautical Center (in portuguese: Centro Náutico da Bahia) for Mar Grande.

- Overland: it's possible to arrive in the Island by car. The main access for those who come from the south part of Bahia is by BR-101 road and by BA-001, that takes you to Itaparica. But those who leave from Salvador can spend even three hours to arrive.
